Baked Masala Peanuts – crunchy, spicy roasted peanuts which are baked in the oven making them a healthier alternative to deep frying. These spiced peanuts make a great snack with tea or coffee.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes Cooking Time: 30 minutes Makes:
Ingredients
-
2 cups raw peanuts with their skin on
-
4 tablespoon gram flour (besan)
-
1 tablespoon oil
-
1 teaspoon or more of chilli powder (depending upon preferred spice level)
-
¼ teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
-
A few curry leaves
-
Salt, as per taste
-
½ teaspoon garlic powder or ginger-garlic paste (optional)
Method:
-
Mix all the ingredients in a big bowl along with a little water so that all the flour and spices stick and coat the peanuts. The mixture should be a little thick and not too runny.
-
Spread them out on a greased baking sheet and bake them at 350ºF degrees for 30 minutes, mixing them around every 10 minutes to aid in even baking.
-
At the end of 20 minutes keep an eye on the peanuts as they may bake quickly and get burnt.
-
Remove them from the oven earlier if you feel that the peanuts have been adequately baked.
-
Store in an air tight container.
