Kidney disease is one of the major complications of Diabetes and affects people who have long term uncontrolled blood sugar levels. Early diagnosis of kidney disease helps in the management and prevention of adverse events. . A new study published in the journal Diabetologia has found that a new test tool called KidneylntelX is helpful to primary care physicians in detecting the risk of kidney disease in Type 2 Diabetes. The test uses the blood sample and medical information of a person with Diabetes and studies three health parameters using artificial intelligence to assess the risk. The technique was used on 1146 people with Type 2 Diabetes seeking medical care from primary care physicians. The test categorised people into low risk, moderate risk and high-risk categories. After 5 years of follow up, 21 per cent of these participants were diagnosed with declining kidney health. The test was found90 per cent effective in predicting kidney disease risk.
