Oats Khichdi

Oats khichdi is nutritious especially during monsoon as it is easily digested and a good source of macro and micronutrients.

Cooking time: 15 minutes

Makes: 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • Oats – 1 cup

  • Onion – ½ (50 g)

  • Tomato – ½ (50 g)

  • Carrot – 1 small

  • Peas – ¼ cup

  • 1 Green chilli

  • Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon

  • Urad dal – 1 teaspoon

  • Chana dal – 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon

  • Salt as per taste

  • Water to adjust consistency

  • Coriander leaves

Method:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan over normal heat. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds urad dal, chana dal and let them splutter for a minute.

  2. Add green chilli, chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until onions turn translucent.

  3. Add turmeric powder and salt and then add tomatoes and peas.

  4. Sauté for 2-3 minutes and add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.

  5. Add oats and let it cook for 5-7 minutes. If it looks dry then you can add water as per requirement.

  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
