Plant-based diet patterns lower the risk of Type 2 Diabetes, a recent study observed. The study analysed the data of 307,099 participants from nine research studies, of which 23,544 individuals had Type 2 Diabetes. The results of this observation were published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. The analysis observed the effect of plant-based dietary patterns and Type 2 Diabetes risk. The results have shown that people who consumed a plant-based diet had 23 per cent lower risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes than people who did not. The study has observed that consumption of plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and nuts improve insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, reduce inflammation and aid weight loss. This significantly reduces the chance of developing Type 2 Diabetes. It is advised to consult your dietician to understand the right kind of foods to include in your diet.
