Not every sweetener that's advertised as healthy is actually a better alternative for regular sugar. A recent study published in the journal Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health has highlighted that sucralose harmed the genetic material in the cells through interactions with the DNA sequence and structure.
Ingestion of sucralose also increased risk of inflammation, oxidative stress and cancer. Sucralose was also found to impair intestinal barrier integrity which in turn could increase risk of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), celiac disease, clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), irritable bowel syndrome, colorectal cancer, Type 1 Diabetes and obesity.
