6th International Diabetes Summit- Virtual Platform to Defeat Diabetes

The International Diabetes Federation states that 77 million Indians have Diabetes. Though Diabetes is preventable  and manageable,  Diabetes and its associated complications are responsible for increasing India's annual mortality rate by over a million.

Chellaram Diabetes Institute, India's premiere multi-speciality Diabetes Hospital, organised the 6th International Diabetes Summit (Virtual) from 04th to 06th March, 2022 to increase awareness about Diabetes being both preventable and manageable.The summit was presided over by Mr Lal L. Chellaram, the Patron and Chairman of Chellaram Diabetes Institute. Prof. Nils-Goran Larsson, Chairman of the Nobel Prize Committee for Physiology and Medicine at Karolinska instituet,Professor and Head of the Department of Medical and Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden, was the Chief Guest during the inaugural ceremony. Dr Pratibha Varkey, President, Mayo Clinic Health System, Professor of Medicine & of Preventive Medicine Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science was the Chief Guest during the valedictory ceremony.

The virtual summit was attended by over 10,000 delegates. The three-day conference provided a unique platform allowing the Indian medical fraternity to interact with clinicians, researchers and Diabetes experts from Karolinska Institute in Sweden, Mayo Clinic, University of Virginia and University of North Carolina in USA, University of Leicester and University of Newcastle in UK, University of Hong Kong, IPFMC in Greece.

Topics discussed included real time remission of Type 2 Diabetes, a patient-centric interactive session on insulin therapy in Type 1 Diabetes, workshops on

obesity management, continuous glucose monitoring at home and in hospitals, cardiovascular (heart) care and Diabetes, role of nutrition in Diabetes management, pandemic diabetology and telehealth among others.

The summit also showcased over 85 papers and oral presentations by young researchers to win the 'Chellaram Foundation Diabetes Research Awards' for Basic Science and Clinical Science categories (1st prize Rs 2,00,000 for each category and 2nd prize Rs 1,00,000 for each category).

The International Diabetes Summit (Virtual) - 2022 succeeded in bringing the latest and best practices in Diabetes care to clinicians treating people with Diabetes. The summit also offered holistic insight in the field of Diabetes management rarely seen in Diabetes conferences in this part of the world.
